There, officers found the boy suffering from at least one life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to Hennepin Healthcare, where he later died.

According to preliminary information, the shooting occurred after a physical altercation among teenage boys escalated, and one of them fired a gun, fatally wounding the victim.

“This is a terrible tragedy,” said Chief O’Hara. “When teenagers have access to guns, conflicts can turn deadly. One young life is lost, and others are forever changed. It’s heartbreaking. The sheer number of guns in circulation—and how easily teens can access them—is unacceptable.”

Homicide investigators with the Minneapolis Police Department are working to determine the sequence of events and identify any suspects. As of Tuesday morning, no arrests had been announced.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the boy’s identity, as well as the official cause and manner of death.
