25 Hilarious Myths People in Other States Believe About Minnesota
A few months ago, I was on the East Coast, and as I was checking in to my hotel, the person at the desk asked for my license...and what happened next is something I'll never forget.
Their eyes got big. And then this curious smile showed up on their face.
I'm not sure if I was the first Minnesotan they'd ever experienced in their life, but it sure seemed like it in that moment as they gazed at me like I was a unique creature who just waltzed into their lobby.
Then they asked the question that I could tell was something they had always wondered:
"Do you have a moose...you know, in your backyard?"
I am fully aware that I don't have a great poker face...and I'm sure that came across as I looked at this person who was still holding my license in their hands. I was also very tired from being up since 3:00 am to catch a flight, and I really wasn't in the mood to dive into what life is really like living in Minnesota...and I can sometimes be a bit sarcastic to a fault...which is why I said the following:
"Actually, no. We have two. Their names are Hotdish and Tator Tot."

I got my license back. I got the keys to my room. And I just convinced a random stranger that all of us in Minnesota have a moose as a pet.
Hopefully this individual will do a simple Google search at some point and realize that Minnesota only has about 4,470 moose in the state. What I just told him fed into the myth he was already believing about our state.
