Spotted in Rochester: 6 Things Locals Say Our City Has Too Many Of
Every time someone asks what Rochester is missing on social media, the comments fill up fast with the usual wish list. It's usually restaurants like IHOP and Raising Cane’s or attractions like Topgolf and Dave & Buster's.
But a recent thread on the Spotted in Rochester Facebook page took a completely different angle: instead of asking what we need, it asked what Rochester already has too much of.

6 Things Rochester Locals Say We Have Too Many Of
I dug through close to 500 comments to find the most common responses. Here are the top 6 things Rochester locals say we have too much of (in no particular order).
1. Construction Projects

Yep, between ongoing road projects and Mayo Clinic’s massive multi-billion-dollar downtown expansion, this shouldn't surprise anyone. Everywhere you turn, you'll see a new building going up or a road-closed sign.
If mosquitoes are our unofficial state bird, orange traffic cones are definitely our unofficial city flower! But as frustrating as it can be, all the heavy machinery is a pretty good sign that Rochester is thriving.
2. Kwik Trips

Did you know Rochester actually has more Kwik Trips than any other city in Minnesota? We’ve got 15 of them scattered around town, which means you're never more than a couple minutes away from a glazer.
3. Taco Trucks

On the thread, people specifically pointed out taco trucks rather than food trucks in general, which probably means folks are just hoping for a little more variety.
I'm a big fan of Mexican food, so as far as I'm concerned, you can never have too many.

4. Coffee Shops

We definitely have a ton of coffee shops operating in town, but do we actually have too many? I'm not so sure. Every time I drive past one, there’s a line of cars wrapped around the drive-thru lane, so the demand is clearly there.
By the way, another major drive-thru coffee chain is opening a location in Rochester soon!
5. Banks & Financial Institutions

Banks and credit unions were mentioned several times. It really does feel like there's a branch on almost every major corner, and even more are on the way.
Chase is officially expanding into Rochester with new branches planned for the Northwest side of town and near the Crossroads Hy-Vee.
6. Apartment Buildings

Major apartment complexes are located all around town, and there are more on the way. Downtown is getting a new residential option with The Klimt, while Bakery Flats is bringing new life to the historic old Wonder Bread factory site.
