Jury Deliberating in Sudden Acceleration Lawsuit

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — After three weeks of trial, the case alleging there was a defect in a Toyota Camry that was involved in 2006 fatal crash has gone to a jury.

The federal jury of six men and six women received the case shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday. They'll now have to decide whether Toyota's design of the 1996 Camry had a defect that was unreasonably dangerous to plaintiffs.

If they decide there was a defect, they then must decide if it was a direct cause of injuries to those hurt or killed when Koua Fong Lee crashed into another car on an Interstate 94 off-ramp.

Lee spent 2½ years in prison for the crash before being released after reports suggested that some Toyota cars had sudden acceleration problems.
