Steve Borchardt is with the Rochester Area Foundation and was a guest Friday morning with Rich Peterson on Rochester's Good Morning to talk about, among other things, the search for a new president for the organization and to give an update on the housing issue in Rochester of which Mr. Borchardt is directly involved.

First of all regarding the vacancy, if you are interested go to the website rochesterarea.org and look up the contact material. They hope to have a new hire by the end of March.

As for housing, specifically "workforce housing", it's a topic that is often misunderstood.

The Rochester Area Foundation is looking for ways to improve the quality of life for those working full time jobs with household incomes between 35 and 55 thousand dollars. There just aren't that many affordable places available for a single mom or father with children, for example.

One caller complained, asking why these people need help when she and her husband made it just fine when they started out, working two jobs. But then she called out a particular segment of our community saying they all seem to have nice cars, "what do they do for jobs?"

Steve was not impressed.

If you'd like more information on the Rochester Area Foundation and it's effort to find solutions to the housing situation, contact Steve Borchardt through the foundation website.
