Austin Man and Rochester Woman Die in Suspected Fentanyl Overdoses During Labor Day Weekend

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- First responders were called to multiple suspected drug overdoses in Rochester during the Labor Day weekend.

That's according to Rochester Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson, who says two of the suspected overdoses were fatal.

Police did not provide a specific number of overdoses.

Austin Man and Rochester Woman Die in Suspected Drug Overdoses, Other Overdose Victims Reported

A preliminary investigation indicates narcotics containing fentanyl may have been contributing factors in the two deaths, police say. 

Grayson described one of the deceased as a 26-year-old man from Austin and the other as a 33-year-old Rochester woman. Their names have not been released.

Officers also rendered life-saving care to other people who were possibly experiencing drug overdoses in the past several days, Grayson said. 

Police Seeking Public's Help

Police are asking anyone who may have knowledge of the suspected overdoses or the distribution of illegal drugs to contact the Narcotics Tip Line at 507-328-6760.

Police say tipsters can remain anonymous. 

The Rochester Police Department also provides a cost-free service that offers paths to treatment and recovery for those struggling with drug addiction called the Police Assisted Recovery Program.
