Lake City, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Mayo Clinic has joined up with a Lake City firm to provide personal protective equipment for Mayo Clinic employees dealing with COVID-19.

Pepin Manufacturing has entered into a partnership with Mayo to produce about 200,000 face shields for the Rochester-based health care provider. Mayo staff will be supplementing the employees of the Lake City firm to assemble and package the masks over the next two weeks.

"We're so impressed with how Pepin Manufacturing has stepped up to fill this need for us, and equally impressed by our employees who are doing their part to ensure these face shields reach their colleagues across the Mayo Clinic Enterprise," says Christopher Gulden, operations administrator, Hospital and Emergency Medicine service line, Southeast Minnesota Region.

To date, 35 to 40 Mayo staff have signed up to work the shifts. Around half of them are employees of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and the remainder are coming to plant in Lake City from the Mayo Health Care System facilities in Lake City and Red Wing.
