Large Water Main Break in Downtown Rochester (UPDATED)
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - There has been a large water main break in downtown Rochester.
A spokesman for Rochester Public Utilities says the break in the pipe is on 2nd Avenue Southwest between 3rd and 2nd Streets. The affected water main is a six-inch pipe that's buried 7 to 8 feet underground. It may also be among the oldest. RPU is reporting it has been in service since 1887.
Sediment left by the gushing water is being cleaned from the road and traffic is being diverted while the work continues.
The City of Rochester now says, due to this emergency closure, Rochester Public Transit will move the boarding of Routes 19 and 15D to 2 St SW at the Harwick Building. Routes 12 and 14 should be boarded at 2 Ave SW near the Stabile Building or on 2 St SW at the Ozmun Building.
