Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Potential DMC support for property owners in Rochester's new downtown historic district is on the agenda for this morning's meeting of the Destination Medical Center Corporation Board of Directors.

The Rochester City Council, after approximately four years of discussions, voted earlier this month to create a historic district that includes 32 downtown properties. During the discussions that preceded the vote, Rochester Mayor Kim Norton and City Council President Brooke Carlson, who both sit on the DMC Board, stated their intent to push for DMC funding and other assistance for the property owners included in the historic district.

The DMC Board today is expected to discuss the issue and give staff some direction on what kind of assistance might be extended to the property owners. DMC Executive Director Patrick Seeb says the assistance could include grants to property owners, branding of the district, and staging events to support business owners. DMC staff would then report back at a future meeting with recommendations that would include program parameters, a funding application process, and goals.

The Destination Medical Center Board will also be reviewing the organization's annual report to the State Legislature. It shows there was just under $200 million in private investments in the DMC District during 2022. Mayo Clinic was responsible for more than $172 million of that amount, with various other projects accounting for the remaining $26 million. The report indicates the cumulative total of Mayo Clinic and other private investments through the end of 2022 has reached nearly $1.5 billion.
