Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - For the first time in days, Rochester residents woke up Saturday to bright sunshine.

Cloudy days were persistent during much of last month but overall, it was a warmer-than-normal January for Rochester.

The average daily temperature of 18.9 was 3.2 degrees above average. There were 7 days with highs of 32 or warmer including 40 on Jan. 9th. There was also a very cold streak during the month. Below zero temperatures were recorded between the 15th and 21st, including -10 on the 16th.

The return of sunshine also means the return of warmer weather. Highs on Sunday are expected to be around 40 degrees. Rochester’s warmest Groundhog Day on record was in 2012 when the temperature rose to 48 degrees. The coldest ever was in 1996, when the all-time February record low of -35 was recorded.
