Magazine Article Leads to Prison Sentence For SE Minnesota Man

Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man from southeastern Minnesota will be spending almost 2 years in federal prison for an explosives related conviction.

58-year-old Kenneth Miller of Brownsville previously pleaded guilty to a single count of manufacturing and dealing in explosive material. He was charged in connection with an investigation that was triggered by an article about Miller in Popular Science magazine.

The publication featured Miller's pyrotechnic manufacturing business on his property in Houston County, which drew the attention of authorities because he is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms, along with manufacturing and dealing in explosive materials. According to court records, Miller admitted he did not have a license, permit, exception, or other authorization from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives to manufacture and sell pyrotechnics.

He was sentenced today to 22 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Miller is also prohibited from buying, selling, using, or possessing pyrotechnic materials.
