A statement from the Minnesota State Patrol says a trooper attempted to pull over a male motorist for an equipment violation in the area of East Circle Dr. and Silver Lake Rd. Northeast shortly before 10 p.m. The statement says the vehicle did not stop despite the trooper activating his emergency lights.

The vehicle turned north on Broadway leaving Rochester. The motorist then drove into the ditch on 50th Ave. north of 75th St. Northeast where he then fled on foot into a cornfield.

Other troopers, Olmsted County Sheriff’s Deputies and Rochester Police Officers responded to the area to set up a perimeter. The State Patrol helicopter also responded for a brief search.

Scanner traffic indicates authorities also summoned a K-9 and drone. Despite the search effort the subject was not found. The State Patrol says the investigation remains active. The subject is not deemed a threat to public safety.
