Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -The Mayo Clinic continues to respond to the numerous natural disasters that have recently stricken portions of the United States, its territories, and neighboring countries.

The Rochester-based healthcare giant today announced a $250,000 donation to Americares to help fund its response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the recent deadly earthquake in Mexico. The statement notes the Mayo Clinic regularly collaborates with the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and Medica Sur, which is a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, is located in Mexico City.

“Our thoughts are with our colleagues who have personal and professional connections in areas hit by these profound natural disasters,” says John Noseworthy, M.D., president and CEO, Mayo Clinic. “Mayo Clinic has a long history of responding to humanitarian needs in times of tragedy – it’s an important part of our values. I am continually impressed and humbled by the outpouring of support offered by so many of our staff.”

Americares is described as an international disaster relief and health organization that responds to emergency medical needs throughout the world.

The Mayo Clinic previously announced donations totaling a million dollars to organizations involved in relief efforts following Hurricanes Irma and Harvey.
