Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - Southern Minnesota’s representative on the University of Minnesota Board of Regents is stepping down. Retired Mayo Clinic Dr. Patricia Simmons has announced she intends to resign this spring after serving on the Board of Regents for 18 years. She is currently in the middle of her third term as the representative for the 1st Congressional District, which ends in 2021.
"Serving the University of Minnesota has been a great privilege," said Simmons. "The University is an extraordinary institution of inestimable value to the people of Minnesota, and in fact is a great asset to the nation and the world. The University of Minnesota drives our economy and contributes greatly to the quality of our lives."
Simmons played a key role in the development of the University of Minnesota-Rochester campus and previously served a two-year term as the Chair of the Board of Regents. The State Constitution calls for her successor to be selected by a joint convention of the Minnesota Legislature.
