Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Mayo Clinic Health System has announced the completion of a large expansion project on one of its campuses in Minnesota

Work began two years ago and the expansion came with a $155 million price tag. Staff and patients began moving into the new space last month. 

Mayo Clinic officials were on hand in Mankato to cut the blue ribbon on May 15.

Crews constructed three new floors on top of an existing two story building that houses the emergency Department, Andreas Cancer Center and Specialty Clinic foyer on Mayo Clinic’s Mankato campus.

A news release announcing the expansion’s opening says the addition includes 121 new hospital beds.

The new space also features what is described as a new and flexible Intensive Care Unit and Progressive Care Unit. A new family birth center is also included in the three-story expansion. 

Mayo Clinic Continues to Expand Facilities in Minnesota

The completion of the expansion of the Mankato campus is another example of Mayo Clinic growing its physical space. 

Late last year, the health care giant officially rolled out a $5 billion plan that will transform its home base in Rochester. Work on the expansion of Mayo’s downtown Rochester campus is set to begin this year and be completed by 2030.
