A Mayo Medical School graduate has been selected to be the research manager

of the Minnesota Health Department’s newly created medical marijuana office.  Named to the position today was Dr. Thomas Arneson, who has been working at the Hennepin County Medical Center.  Arneson will be charged with developing the Health Department’s medical cannabis patient registry and ongoing research.  The department says Arneson will also oversee the implementation of activities focused on generating reliable information about the best use and medical value of medical marijuana, including any possible long-term health effects and societal impacts of its use.  He is scheduled to begin his new job Monday.  The state’s medical marijuana program is expected to begin by next July.
