In February, an Olmsted County Jury sided with Mayo Clinic in a lawsuit brought against the healthcare giant by Dr. Michael Joyner. The jurors determined Mayo did not violate its policy and was not in a breach of contract.
Dr. Joyner alleged Mayo punished him for comments he made in media interviews, which he claimed violated Mayo's "Freedom of Expression and Academic Freedom Policy."

Dr. Michael Joyner Seeks New Trial in Lawsuit Against Mayo Clinic
Earlier this week, the attorneys representing Dr. Joyner filed a motion seeking a new trial in the case. The filing indicates Mayo Clinic is not opposed to a new trial.

Dr. Joyner’s legal counsel is asking for an extension of the 30-day deadline to file for a new trail, indicating they’re waiting for court administration to provide transcripts from the previous trial.
Court documents indicate a ruling on whether or not a new trial would be held could happen as soon as June 8.
Fate of $200K Reimbursement Request Remains Uncertain
Following the verdict, Mayo Clinic requested Dr. Joyner reimburse $207,276.36 in legal costs associated with the case.
Dr. Joyner’s attorneys have filed an objection to the request, arguing the application, “does not provide sufficient information and detail to determine whether the costs claimed were actually incurred or were reasonable and necessary,” according to court records.
