Mild Winter Allows Rochester to End Winter Parking Rules Early
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The City of Rochester has decided to end the enforcement of its seasonal parking requirements early this year.
The Rochester Public Works Department issued a news release today indicating the enforcement of the ordinance has been suspended through the end of the month, which is when the seasonal alternate side parking requirement normally expires for the season. The release says "minimal snow accumulations and unusually warm temperatures have prevented creeping snowbanks that narrow city streets over the course of winter."
In the event of a late spring snowstorm, Rochester residents are strongly encouraged to go back to alternate side parking to assist the city in its snow removal operations.
Public Works Director Tyler Niemeyer shares, “We appreciate residents and guests following the seasonal parking requirements. We’ve experienced another atypical winter with less snow than usual, but the community’s participation in the seasonal parking requirements was a big help during the weather events we did experience. The additional room on streets also facilitated other maintenance activities, including additional street sweeping to keep our waterways clean.”

Enforcement of Rochester's seasonal parking requirements will resume on November 1.
