Minneapolis Police- Mother Arrested After Two Children Were Shot

Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minneapolis Police are investigating a fatal argument involving a mother and her teenage children.
A news release says officers responded to a residence around 6 AM Saturday after receiving a 911 call from a person who reported that a gun had discharged during an argument.
The officers found an 18-year-old woman with a life-threatening gunshot wound and a 13-year-old boy with non-life-threatening injuries. A news release says it appears both victims were hit by the same bullet.
Both teenagers were transported to North Memorial Hospital, where the 18-year-old victim died. Information on the medical condition of the 13-year-old boy is not available. Minneapolis police also reported that several other juveniles were in the home when the shooting occurred, but they were not injured.
The findings of a preliminary investigation indicate "a verbal argument between a mother and her children escalated and a shot was fired." Investigators are now focused on determining if the discharge of the weapon was accidental or intentional.
A gun was recovered at the scene and the mother, identified as 39-year-old Ashley Pope, was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault.
