Plea Deal For Rochester Area Bust Involving 800+ Fentanyl Pills
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A plea agreement worked out with a drug trafficker who was tripped up by a traffic stop near Rochester last year calls for a more than five-year prison sentence.
24-year-old Abdimajid Mohamed has entered a guilty plea to a first-degree drug sales charge and a misdemeanor DWI count. In exchange, the Olmsted County Attorney's Office agreed to dismiss two counts of second-degree drug sales and will recommend a 65-month prison sentence for the convictions.
The criminal complaint against the Burnsville man says he was stopped by a State Trooper on Highway 52 near Pine Island last August in connection with the driving complaint. In his report, the trooper said Mohamed appeared to be lethargic.
The court document indicates Mohamed admitted using fentanyl about two hours before he got behind the wheel. It also says the trooper learned Mohamed was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant and took him into custody before transporting him to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.
While he was being searched at the jail during the booking process, deputies discovered more than 800 counterfeit oxycodone pills in his possession. Those pills later tested positive for fentanyl.
The plea deal also covers a similar drug bust that occurred last April in Burnsville. In that case, Mohamed was allegedly caught in possession of more than 600 suspected fentanyl pills and a handgun when a Burnsville police officer went to investigate a car with expired license tabs and numerous bullets in the windshield.
Mohamed is scheduled to be sentenced later this month.
