Minnesota COVID Deaths Mount but Other Stats Trending Lower
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - New cases of COVID-19 and related hospitalizations declined yesterday in Minnesota but the number of coronavirus-related deaths was the second-highest single-day death toll of the pandemic.
The Minnesota Department of Health reported an additional 94 COVID-19 deaths statewide. One of the deaths involved an Olmsted County resident in their late 80s. There have now been four coronavirus-related deaths reported in Olmsted County and 265 statewide in just the past three days. Today's health department report shows two of the people who died were in their 30s and two others were in their 50s.
The number of new COVID-19 infections reported today in Minnesota fell to just under 3800 with 87 new infections reported in Olmsted County. The number of tests completed on Thursday was close to 54,000 and the daily positivity rate was down to about seven percent.
Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 continue to trend lower in Minnesota. The latest statistics show 1118 Minnesotans are hospitalized because of the viral infection. That is the lowest that number has been in just over a month. The number of those patients requiring treatment in intensive care units dropped to 343, which is the lowest it has been since November 15th.
