Minnesota Reports New COVID-19 Testing Record
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota has set another coronavirus related record.
The state health department today reported over 89,500 COVID-19 tests were completed on Saturday which easily surpassed the previous daily record of just under 70,000 that was reported on Friday. The testing identified over 8950 new infections for a testing positivity rate of 10-percent. 118 of the new cases were found in Olmsted County.
State health officials also reported an additional 57 coronavirus-related deaths throughout Minnesota. A Freeborn County resident in their late 80s was on the list.
The Department of Health does not update the COVID-19 hospitalization statistics during the weekend, but the most recent numbers show a slight decline in the overall number of Minnesotans currently hospitalized due to the new illness. The total dropped back below 1400 on Friday after hitting a peak of 1454 last Monday. 386 of those patients required ICU beds, which is just one below the peak reported last Tuesday.
