Minnesota Ties Record for COVID-19 Deaths
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Department of Health today reported another 35 coronavirus related deaths throughout the state.
That is tied with May 28th for being the highest single-day COVID-19 death toll in Minnesota since the beginning of the pandemic. Two of the deaths reported today involved residents of Mower County. State health officials say they were in their late 80s and early 90s.
The health department says 1068 new confirmed infections were detected by the approximately 15,500 tests that were completed Tuesday, which works out to a positivity rate of about 6.8-percent. 37 of the new cases were found in Olmsted County, where the positivity rate for the day was 5.6-percent.
Olmsted County Public Health says 204 COVID-19 infections were detected last week. That was up over 30 from the previous week and was the second-highest weekly count for the county. The highest weekly total to date was 212 reported during the third week of September. The seven day rolling average for new cases has been steady at just below 30 and the average positivity rate for Olmsted County remains below the state average at only 4-percent.
