St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota’s economy added about 7,800 jobs last month, but the state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate remained steady at 3.7-percent for an eighth consecutive month.

A year ago, the unemployment rate was 4.4-percent, while the national rate last month was 5.5-percent.

The vast majority of the job gains in Minnesota last month were in the education and health sectors.

The latest data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development shows the state has seen a net gain of just under 51,000 jobs over the past year for a job growth rate of 1.9-percent, which continues to lag behind the national average of 2.3-percent.

Job growth in the Rochester was even more anemic. The latest statistics show the local economy has only seen a net gain of around 1,000 jobs in the past 12 months for a growth rate of less than 1-percent.
