COOKE CITY, Mont. (AP) — Park County authorities say an 18-year-old Minnesota man has died after he was buried in an avalanche while snowmobiling.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.  Reports indicate he was from Lake Lillian.

The Park County Sheriff's Office says it received a report of a snowmobiler buried in the Daisy Pass and Crown Butte area near Cooke City about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

KTVM-TV reports that the victim was found under about 6 feet of snow shortly after 5 p.m.

The sheriff's office says the victim was with a group of six others and was sitting on his snowmobile about halfway up the slope when he was overtaken by the avalanche. One other member of the party tried to outrun the avalanche and was knocked off his snowmobile but not buried. He was slightly injured.
