MN Woman Accused of Going 111 mph in Rochester Fleeing Attempt
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Brook Park, MN woman is accused of traveling 111 mph on North Broadway Ave. in an attempt to flee a state trooper in Rochester.
Charges filed in Olmsted County Court Tuesday say 36-year-old Heather Hanson was clocked by a state trooper traveling 71 mph in a 30 mph zone on Broadway near 6th St. Northwest around 2:45 a.m. Monday. The trooper was heading in the opposite direction and turned around to chase the vehicle down and activated his emergency lights.
The trooper reported nearly losing the vehicle in the area of Silver Lake Dr. but then spotting it again near the Kwik Trip on 37th St. The squad then began gaining on Hanson and trooper’s radar indicated Hanson’s vehicle was up to 111 mph as the squad and suspect vehicle continued north, according to the criminal complaint.
The trooper then decided Hanson would not stop and terminated the pursuit while continuing north on Broadway. The trooper then found the vehicle Hanson was driving in the ditch near the north Broadway roundabout at 75th St., the complaint says.
Hanson was checked out by medical personnel then transported to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center. She admitted to seeing the trooper's lights and said she was driving “a little fast,” the complaint states.
Hanson has been charged with a felony count of fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle. She was released without bail but with conditions. Her next court appearance is set for December 6.
