The 2014 election season officially opened in Minnesota on Tuesday with the start of the two week filing period for candidates seeking the elected positions that will appear on the November ballot.

Locally, Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede, City Councilmembers Ed Hruska, Bruce Snyder and Mark Hickey have filed for re-election. Shaun Palmer also filed for the 5th ward seat now held by Hickey.

There were also first day filings by Rochester School Board members Julie Workman and Gary Smith, Olmsted County Sheriff Dave Mueller, County Attorney Mark Ostrem, and County Commissioners Ken Brown and Matt Flynn.
