Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- An officer fired their service weapon during a lengthy standoff involving an armed suspect in Rochester.

That’s according to a news release issued Sunday morning by the Rochester Police Department

The incident began Saturday evening and ended Sunday morning in southwest Rochester

Rochester Police Officer Fires at Man Armed With Rifle, Arrest Suspect After Lengthy Standoff

Officers responded to the report of a domestic dispute involving a man armed with a knife in the 3800 block of Willow Ridge Dr. Southwest around 10:45 Saturday night. 

The suspect had left the scene in a vehicle before officers arrived, police say.

Around 12:15 Sunday morning, officers encountered the man’s vehicle in southwest Rochester and attempted a traffic stop. He continued driving until he reached a residence in the 2700 block of 1st Ave. Southwest.

At the home, the man exited the vehicle and was armed with a rifle, the news release says.

Police say the man was uncooperative and an officer discharged his service weapon in response.

 

The man then fled into the home. The Crisis Negotiation Until and a SWAT Team responded to the home in an effort to de-escalate the situation, the news release says. 

The man surrendered around 4:45 Sunday morning without further incident, police say. Police have not released the name of the suspect or the officer who fired their weapon. 

No injuries were reported. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Rochester police are investigating the incident.
