Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A wanted man is in custody after crashing into a squad car, driving the wrong way while fleeing authorities on a busy Rochester street and crashing into a civilian’s vehicle.

That’s according to Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Captain Tim Parkin. The ordeal unfolded on Friday afternoon. 

Parkin says deputies attempted to arrest 45-year-old Jaden Townsend on multiple active felony-level arrest warrants shortly before 12:30 p.m.

Townsend was in a vehicle at a Rochester hotel parking lot when law enforcement made contact with him. The wanted man backed into an Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office squad car and accelerated away from the area, Parkin said.

Deputies chased after Townsend but called off the pursuit after Townsend began driving against oncoming traffic in the area of West Circle Dr. and 41st St. Northwest, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Parkin said deputies are-engaged in pursuit when Townsend re-entered the correct lane of traffic near Hwy. 52 along 55th St. Northwest. 

Townsend then attempted what the report describes as an evasive turn onto northbound Hwy. 52 from 55th St. when he crashed into a civilian’s car.

Deputies then boxed Townsend in and took him and his passenger, who was also wanted for arrest, into custody. Parkin says Mayo Clinic Ambulance responded to the scene where the pursuit ended as a precautionary measure. 

No injuries were reported. Townsend and his passenger, whose name has not been released, are being held on charges related to their warrants and new charges, Parkin says.
