Update 3 P.M.: Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester City officials have confirmed an adult pedestrian was fatally struck by a snow plow Friday morning.

A statement from the City of Rochester confirmed that police responded to the fatal incident at 8:54 a.m. The snow plow that hit the pedestrian is owned and operated by the City of Rochester.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The fatal collision occurred along Pinewood Rd. near Pinewood Elementary in Southeast Rochester.

Rochester Public Schools Superintendent Kent Pekel said the aftermath of the incident was witnessed by students and staff. The district is making councilors and other crisis team members available for those who need assistance. 

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the fatal crash. Rochester Mayor Kim Norton expressed the city's condolences to the victim's family during a news conference Friday morning. The victim has been sent to the Southern Minnesota Medical Examiner's Office, which officials say will release the victim's identity.

City officials did not disclose details about the victim, but initial reports indicate the victim was a woman in her 60's. The plow driver has been placed on paid administrative leave.

City employees are being offered support services. Officials did not disclose the name or condition of the plow driver. The city has not suspended snow plow operations following the fatal collision.

Dispatch audio indicates the initial call for service went out shortly before 9 a.m. Friday. The location of the incident is Pinewood Rd. & Pinewood Dr.

The preliminary report indicated the pedestrian, identified as a female, was not breathing following the collision. A Rochester Police spokeswoman has confirmed the collision was fatal. 

The Rochester Fire Department, Rochester Police Department, Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, State Patrol and Mayo Clinic Ambulance responded to the scene in the 2800 block of Pinewood Rd. Southeast.
