The district's superintendent has confirmed that the Plainview Police Department received a call around 7:12 p.m. on Wednesday.

The nature of the threat is not known, and it is unclear if that call was from a person making a threat or from someone reporting something they had heard or seen.

STATEMENT FROM PLAINVIEW POLICE DEPARTMENT

Plainview's Police Chief released a statement on Facebook late Wednesday evening to update the community.

"We are aware of the threats made against the P.E.M school district and are taking this matter very seriously. Our staff has begun an investigation, but we need your assistance to ensure a thorough and accurate process."

Miller said, police immediately launched an investigation and have already spoken to several people, but haven't determined if the threat was credible.

Authorities are asking anyone with knowledge of the situation to contact the police department as soon as possible. Investigators are specifically looking for people "who personally saw the specific threat made by the suspect, or heard the suspect make the threat in person."
