Misunderstanding Led to Reports of Threats Against PEM Schools

Plainview, MN (KROC-AM News) - Plainview police say an investigation has determined that no threats were made against the Plainview-Elgin-Millville School District, its students, or staff.

The public school system in southeastern Minnesota canceled classes today after the Plainview Police Department indicated it was aware of reported threats against the school district. In a statement issued Wednesday night, Plainview police said officers had spoken with several individuals who had heard about the threats and were seeking witnesses with personal knowledge of the alleged threat or who had heard it being made.

Misunderstanding

An updated statement issued this afternoon says the investigation revealed that a misunderstanding occurred in the “chain of communication,” resulting in inaccurate information spreading rapidly through social media platforms. Plainview police say the inaccurate information was connected to unrelated incidents involving a fight at a school and a separate incident involving threats of violence not connected to the school district.

Threats Did Not Involved Schools

The statement says investigators determined that the threat of violence was not directed at the school district, its students, or staff members.
