Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester Police arrested a man suspected of being intoxicated while handling a gun in one of the city’s parks over the weekend.
Police Captain Casey Moialen said an off-duty police department employee reported seeing the gun being raised outside of a vehicle as they were driving in the area of the park around 6:40 Sunday evening. The employee reported the armed individual appeared to be racking the gun's slide.
Officers arrived at Essex Park and found the suspect vehicle on the property. Moilanen said the man seen waving the gun was in the passenger seat and was identified as 22-year-old Mahed Ahmend of Rochester.
Officers suspected him of being under the influence of alcohol and administered a preliminary breath test which indicated he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.118. Moilanen said Ahmend has a permit to carry a firearm but was arrested on suspicion of carrying a pistol while under the influence of alcohol.
Ahmed was also suspected of supplying the 19-year-old man in the driver’s seat with alcohol. He was identified as 19-year-old Abdinajib Ismail.
Moilanen said officers arrested the young Rochester man on suspicion of fourth-degree DWI after a preliminary test indicated a blood-alcohol content of 0.10.
