Bloomington, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after a Minnesota man in crisis was arrested following a shootout and standoff with police.

The exchange of gunfire that was followed by a multi-hour standoff occurred early Friday morning. 

A news release issued by the Bloomington Police Department says officers from the Richfield Police Department were involved in the shooting while Bloomington officers were tied up with a reported jewelry store burglary in progress and other calls.

Man in Crisis Captured After Shootout and Standoff with Police in Bloomington

The Richfield officers responded to the report of a suicide threat in a residential area southwest of the Mall of America around midnight Friday morning.

Shortly after arriving, the officers and the man in crisis exchanged gunfire. A SWAT Team responded to the scene and a standoff ensued, the news release says.

The suspect then surrendered to law enforcement around 4 a.m. He’s been identified as 36-year-old Andrew James Maxwell and is being held on pending charges by Bloomington Police. 

No injuries were reported. The BCA is investigating the use of deadly force by officers, the news release says.
