Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Olmsted County Board has approved a contract that may lead to a future use of the former Seneca Foods site near Graham Park.

The board Tuesday approved the hiring of Rochester Area Economic Development, Inc. (RAEDI) to seek proposals for the  11-acre site it acquired for $5.6-million in 2019.

It was demolished in late 2020.

County Administrator Heidi Welsch says under the contract RAEDI will seek ANY possible re-use of the site, including housing.

"Instead of pre-deciding what the best use of this property will be, the Board has asked RAEDI to help us release a Request for Interest/Information (RFI). In this process, anyone and everyone is invited to submit a proposal for the use of the property. The Board has not closed off any options at the point. We expect this process to start this spring."

The board was told the county doesn’t have “sufficient staff resources with the expertise to ascertain” a future use for the site. The contract calls for a fee of up to $60,000 for RAEDI’s services.
