Record Number of STDs in Minnesota Last Year

St. Paul, MN  (Learfield Wire Services/TTWN Media Networks) -- The Minnesota Department of Health says sexually-transmitted diseases continue to rise in the state and record numbers of chlamydia and hepatitis C cases were reported in 2017.

The Minnesota Department of Health says that new statistics from 2017 show a general increase in STD cases, while H-I-V numbers were slightly down and disparities between groups persisted. Health officials say Chlamydia was the number-one reported S-T-D in Minnesota, with a record number of nearly 24-thousand cases reported last year, a four-percent increase over 2016. Gonorrhea cases were up 28 percent; cases of syphilis rose 10 percent.

The number of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis cases combined were up eight percent last year over 2016. The number of H-I-V cases were down slightly from 290 cases in 2016 to 284 last year.
