Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Two of the three races for seats on the Rochester City Council in Tuesday’s election turned out to be nail-biters.

Patrick Keane edged out Heather Holmes in the 1st ward contest by just 44 votes ( 4190-4146). There were 17 write-in ballots for the seat that is currently held by Ed Hruska, who decided not to run again.

Shaun Palmer defeated Judy Hickey in the 5th ward race by just 60 votes (3967-3907). There were 46 write-in ballots in that contest. The seat is currently held by Mark Hickey (Judy’s husband) who did not seek another term.

What about recounts?

Rochester City Clerk Anissa Hollingshead says It appears both races fall just outside the margin allowing for a publicly funded recount.”
