Austin, MN (KROC-AM News)- Riverland Community College in Austin went into a lockdown Thursday morning.

Austin Police Chief David McKichan said in a statement, “Our agency is aware of the reports of a lockdown at Riverland’s Austin campus.” 

He also said “We are not aware of any active, ongoing, or past action physical issues at that property this morning.”

Riverland Community College Campus in Austin, MN Enters Lockdown Thursday Morning

The lockdown at Riverland is reportedly precautionary in nature, according to the Austin Police Chief. The college’s campus in Austin is located at 1900 8th Ave NW. 

Investigators and patrol officers  from the Austin Police Department are working with officials at Riverland to investigate the cause of concern, McKichan said. 

Austin School Resource Officers have been ordered to check in with the Austin School District to “see if they have any concerns,” McKichan’s statement says.

McKichan emphasized that the Austin Police Department is “not aware of any ongoing physical activity at any of our Austin educational locations.”
