Rochester City Council Acts On Proposed Changes To Two Boards
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council has rejected a proposal to make changes to two of the city’s major boards.
The city Charter Commission recommended making the Public Library and Parks boards advisory bodies only.
The city attorney told the council the proposed changes would lead to “a dramatic shift in policy” for both boards.
According to information given to the Council:
"Currently, the Council approves the non-capital budgets for the two departments. The boards then make decisions on how the budgets are spent. If the proposed changes are approved, the Park Board and Library Board become advisory only and the majority of the decisions they currently make revert back to the staff."
The council’s vote came after a public hearing was held Wednesday.
The issue is expected to be revisited by the Charter Commission at its next meeting.
