Rochester Man Accused of Pointing Gun at Women Outside of Essex Park Apartments
28-year-old Ahmed Mohamed Mumin of Rochester is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, possession of a firearm by an ineligible person and fifth-degree drug possession.
The victims told police they were leaving a visit with a family member at the Essex Park apartment complex at 937 41st St. Northwest.
Once outside the building and into a vehicle, they say the suspect, later identified as Mumin, produced a gun and pointed it at their vehicle as the women turned onto 41st St. Northwest, the complaint says.
He then ran after the vehicle as the victims drove away, the charges allege. Officers found Mumin with another male when they arrived at the scene.
The two tried to walk away and refused officer commands to stop, the complaint says. Additional officers got to the scene and apprehended Mumin.
Paramedics then arrived to evaluate Mumin. While receiving medical attention, the complaint says Mumin said to a group of individuals who the complaint says were loitering at the scene, "tell those females to keep their mouths shut, I will pay them $100, I didn't do anything."
Police found two oxycodone pills and fragments from a suspected oxycodone pill in Mumin’s satchel during his arrest. He also had a scale with residue that tested positive for cocaine in his satchel, the charges say.
Court records indicate Mumin was convicted of fifth-degree drug possession in a 2020 Olmsted County case.
Mumin’s conditional bail was set at $50,000 during his first court appearance Monday morning. He’s due back in court later this month.
