Rochester Man Accused of Threatening Woman With a Gun
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Bail has been set at $100,000 for a Rochester man accused of brandishing a handgun during a domestic assault incident last week.
The criminal complaint brought against 28-year-old Dominique Deshaun Murphy says he was arrested on the afternoon of August 7 after Rochester police officers responded to a report of a domestic assault at a residence in northeast Rochester. When they arrived, Murphy was at the scene and the victim indicated they had been in a previous relationship while living in Iowa and have a child together, but she left and moved to Rochester after he allegedly became abusive.
The court document includes the victim's description of a previous domestic assault after Murphy moved to Rochester several months ago and tried to reconnect with the victim. She then told police Murphy came to her home on August 7th demanding money and threatened to break her fingers when he tried to take her phone.
The charges allege Murphy then threw the victim onto a couch and covered her mouth with his hand, preventing her from breathing, while he attempted to force her eyes open to unlock her phone. The victim told police Murphy then took her purse and other personal items out to his vehicle, which provided her an opportunity to lock the front door to her home.
According to the criminal complaint, Murphy allegedly pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the door as he demanded to be let in. The victim alleged that he told her "not to make him use this" before he went back to his car.
The charging document says Rochester police searched his vehicle and found the victim's property on the floorboard. The officers also indicated they found two handguns, an extended magazine holding 28 bullets, and four smoke grenades.
The criminal complaint states that Murphy gave a statement to an officer and said that he and the victim had a "screaming the battle," he died issuing threats or anything physical. He also denied there were any weapons in his vehicle.
Murphy is facing felony counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, simple robbery, terroristic threats, illegal possession of an explosive/incendiary device, and domestic assault. He was also charged with a gross misdemeanor count of possessing the pistol without a permit and misdemeanor domestic assault.
