Rochester Man Charged After Boiling Water Attack on Woman
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man with a history of domestic violence has been charged with badly burning a woman by throwing a pot of boiling water on her.
Court records indicate the incident occurred back in July, but the victim initially refused to provide a statement to Rochester police officers who responded to a social services report from Mayo Clinic about a possible domestic violence incident. The criminal complaint states the woman contacted investigators in late October to file a report and explained that the delay was "out of fear of the defendant, specifically his violent drinking episodes, and it took time to get him to leave her."

According to the charges, the victim was boiling water to make Ramen noodles when 41-year-old Christopher Paul Hilton, described in the document as her live-in boyfriend, came home drunk and angry. She told investigators that she told him to leave and he became enraged.
That's when Hilton allegedly took the pot of boiling water and threw it on the victim. She told investigators she managed to turn her back and the scolding water caused "intense pain and her back was blistering."
The criminal complaint indicates her medical reports describe burns covering 50% of her back. The court document also says the victim described burns that resulted in the loss of skin and scarring.
Hilton has been charged in Olmsted County Court with third-degree assault causing substantial only harm and felony domestic assault. His conditional bail has been set at $50,000.
Hilton is scheduled to appear for another court hearing in December.
Court records show he has a previous conviction for felony domestic assault in 2015. He also entered a guilty plea to a gross misdemeanor domestic assault charge earlier this year and was placed on probation.
