Rochester Man Charged in Cub Hammer Attack Back in Custody
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Rochester man charged with felony assault in connection to a hammer attack reported at Cub is back in custody.
Last week, law enforcement issued an arrested warrant for 28-year-old Pedro Vasquez after he failed to appear at a July 19 court hearing. The court no-show came after he was released without bail but with conditions following his initial court appearance on July 7.
Olmsted County Adult Detention Center records indicate Vasquez was booked into the jail on the arrest warrant Friday afternoon. He faces charges of second-degree assault and fifth-degree assault in connection to the July 5 incident at Cub.
The criminal complaint against Vasquez accuses him of entering the grocery store, taking a hammer from an employee-only area then swinging the hammer at several shoppers. Rochester Police reported finding him being restrained by a shopper who he’s accused of head-butting when they arrived at the scene.
Vasquez's next court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
