Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  A Rochester police officer was nearly knocked out after being sucker-punched by a drunk Friday night.

The officer was called to a residence to check a report of an intoxicated person. The officer determined 51-year-old Derek Richey was so drunk he had to be taken to St Marys Hospital for treatment. While there, Richey punched the officer in the face. As Richey continued his aggressive behavior, the officer used his Taser on him and he was taken to jail.

The officer suffered several loose teeth, bruises, and cuts on the inside of his mouth.

Richey - described as 5-9 and 210 pounds -  is expected to be charged with felony assault.
