Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man accused of an attack on his ex-girlfriend in April has been sentenced to 10 years on probation.

31-year-old Andre Chaplin was also ordered to successfully complete the Minnesota Teen Challenge Long Term program and will remain in jail until a bed becomes available at the treatment facility. He earlier pleaded guilty to a felony stalking charge through a plea agreement that resulted in the dismissal of six felony assault and burglary charges.

The victim in the case initially told police she was assaulted by a stranger with a baseball bat along a bike path in southeast Rochester. Police later learned that witnesses saw a man with a baseball bat force his way into a home near the bike path, followed by a woman running away from the residence.

The victim eventually admitted she was the victim of that assault and had made up the story about the attack on the bike path because she feared for her life.
