Fort Mohave, AZ (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man is being held on a second-degree murder charge in Arizona.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Department has issued a news release concerning the arrest of 55-year-old Daniel Joseph Campbell on Wednesday evening after deputies responded to reports of a possible drug overdose in a vehicle along a highway in Fort Mohave, about 10-miles south of Laughlin along the Nevada, Arizona, and California border. Campbell and 40-year-old Amy Johanna Berg of Rochester were in the vehicle. She was unresponsive and was declared dead after efforts to revive her failed.

The Sheriff’s Office statement says Campbell, described as Berg’s boyfriend, told investigators she had earlier purchased some illegal drugs and began overdosing after she complained that she was not feeling well and stopped along the highway. Campbell indicated he tried to perform CPR before the deputies arrived, and because there were no signs of foul play, he was released from the scene.

The news release says the detectives assigned to the case were contacted the next day by the Mohave County Medical Examiner, who informed them an autopsy determined Berg had suffered blunt force injuries to her head and there was evidence of strangulation. Campbell was located Thursday afternoon at a motel in on the outskirts of Laughlin and was taken into custody without incident.
