Rochester Mayor, Two Councilmembers Facing Election Challenges
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - There are just two days left for candidates to file for elective seats in Minnesota that will be on the November ballot.
Filings will officially close Tuesday at 5:00 pm.
Some of the Rochester positions up for election are already contested.
Mayor Kim Norton will face at least two challengers in her re-election bid. Also filing for the seat were Britt Noser and Brad Trahan.
As of Thursday, two City Council seats were contested. Patrick Keane is facing a challenge from Andy Hemenway for his seat and Saida Omar is challenging Shaun Palmer.
Three of the Olmsted County Board seats that will be on the ballot were being contested. Gregg Wright is being challenged by Karl Johnson. Three people have filed for the seat held by Commissioner Matt Flynn, who is not running again. The three are Michael Medford, Brian Mueller and Bill Pirkl. Three people have also filed for the seat held by Jim Bier, who is not seeking re-election. They are Evan Brown, Catherine Davis and Mike Macken.
So far, just one seat on the Rochester School Board that will be on the ballot is contested. Justin Cook, Abdullahi Omar Yusuf and A. Mohamed “Chief” have filed for the seat held now by Melissa Amundsen.
Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem is facing a challenge from Karen MacLaughlin.
