Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A second Rochester man has been charged in connection with a local carjacking case.

Four people are suspected of committing the violent vehicle theft last Fall.

One of the suspects, identified as 18-year-old Dakaree R’Moni Johnson, became the first person charged in the case earlier this year. Police identified another suspect as 18-year-old Moses Joseph Ogak.

20-Year-Old Rochester Man Becomes Second Person Charged in Violent Carjacking

On the night of October 7, Rochester police responded to a report of a vehicle theft at a residence in southeast Rochester and found a man outside with his clothing soaked in blood and bleeding from his head. 

The victim told police another vehicle pulled in behind him seconds after he arrived in his driveway. He said at least two people exited and approached him.

One person came to the passenger side and pointed a flashlight through the window, while a second person opened the driver’s door and pulled him out of the vehicle.

The victim reported that he then attempted to roll under his spouse’s vehicle, which was also parked in the driveway, but he was assaulted and robbed of his phone and wallet before his attackers drove off in his vehicle.

Along with “a notable amount of blood, ” police found a handgun magazine containing approximately a dozen unfired 9 mm bullets, court documents say. 

DNA & Phone Tracking ID Suspect

A forensic analysis of the magazine conducted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension determined DNA found on the clip was a likely match to a DNA sample belonging to 20-year-old Chan James Malith

The complaint also includes a series of messages and phone calls exchanged between Malith and Ogak. An analysis of phone records placed Malith’s phone at the victim’s home during the carjacking, the court document indicates. 

Malith is charged with aiding and abetting first-degree carjacking. His conditional bail was set at $50,000 following his first court appearance on Thursday.
