Rochester Traffic Stop Leads to Child Endangerment Charge Against MN Woman

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Twin Cities woman is facing a felony child endangerment charge following a traffic stop in Rochester.

The criminal complaint, filed in Olmsted County Court on Tuesday, says the traffic stop happened shortly before 10:30 on Sunday night. 

A Rochester police officer on patrol initiated the stop after being notified by his automatic license plate reader that a passing vehicle was registered to a person with a revoked driver’s license, the court document says.

The officer followed a vehicle along North Broadway Ave. and stopped it for suspicion of driving after revocation, crossing the centerline and speeding, the charges say. 

St. Paul Woman Arrested for DWI in Rochester While Transporting Two Children

36-year-old Katy Odessa‐Sue Wimes of St. Paul was identified as the driver. The officer suspected her of being impaired upon making contact with her, the charging document says. 

She also was transporting a 10-year-old child and 8-year-old child, the complaint says. Wimes was taken into custody on suspicion of DWI. 

Once at the Olmsted County Jail, law enforcement performed a DataMaster test that measured Wimes’s blood-alcohol concentration at 0.20, which is more than twice the legal limit, according to the court document. 

A family member came to pick up the children. Court records indicate Wimes was convicted of first-degree DWI earlier this year. 

Wimes is charged with felony child endangerment, two counts of gross misdemeanor DWI and driving after revocation. She was released without bail and is due back in court later this month.
