
City Council Approves New Rochester Housing Development
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Rochester City Council has signed off on a housing development along one of the busiest streets in the city.

Funding for the project, supplied by the Destination Medical Center (DMC), won approval from the corporation’s board earlier this month.
Plans for the development include a market-rate housing and retail space. The proposal calls for it to be built between downtown Rochester and St. Mary’s Hospital.

Housing Development on 2nd St. Southwest in Rochester, MN Wins Unanimous City Council Approval
The location slated for development is between downtown Rochester and St. Mary’s Hospital. Plans for the project call for constructing a market-rate 133 unit residential building, according to the city council’s meeting agenda item.
On a 6-0 vote, the elected leaders approved spending $2,372,500 in DMC funding for the project along 2nd St. Southwest, between 7th and 11th Avenues.
The plan includes a four-unit for-sale workforce condominiums.
City documents indicate each condo unit will be sold to individuals who meet income requirements in the form of a $200,000 mortgage.
A $124,500 Minnesota Housing Finance Authority Grant will be relied upon to cover the remainder of the purchase.
The proposal also calls for a pedestrian-only walkway running north and south between 2nd St. and 1st St. Southwest. A small park along the walkway is also included in the proposal.
